Chargers and power adapters: recalls and official safety alerts
687 official alerts and recalls concern chargers and power adapters: 663 from EU Safety Gate and 24 from US CPSC. The first dates from 17 December 2019, the latest from 30 September 2026. In the last four complete quarters there were 186, up from 158 in the four quarters before. The hazards named most often are electric shock (83%), fire (17%) and burns (8%). Read from the official risk descriptions, the most common reasons are insufficient insulation or moisture protection (57%), live parts can be touched (41%) and overheats, melts or short-circuits (19%). 85% were for products made in China. 36% of the EU alerts were marked as sold online, and 19% name an online marketplace, most often Amazon, Wish and eBay. The most common outcome was withdrawn from the market (52% of EU alerts); 57% included a measure ordered by an authority. Chemicals named in the official risk descriptions include lead, phthalates and short-chain chlorinated paraffins.
