Findings
- Amazon, not Temu, is the platform most often named in official dangerous-product alertsIn the 12 months to 1 October 2026, official EU and US alerts named Amazon more often than any other marketplace — in both sources.
- One in four EU dangerous-product alerts in 2025 was for a product sold online — and most don't sayOf 4,631 official EU dangerous-product alerts published in 2025, 25% were marked as sold online, 19% as not sold online, and 56% left it unknown. 15% named a marketplace.
- France files more than a third of the EU alerts that name an online marketplaceIn the 12 months to 1 October 2026, French authorities filed 349 of the 939 EU alerts naming a marketplace (37%). Italy, the third-largest filer overall, named a marketplace in 5 of its 449 alerts.
- One banned fragrance ingredient, lilial, was behind a third of EU product alerts from 2023 to 2025Lilial (BMHCA) has been banned in EU cosmetics since 1 March 2022. It then appeared in 4,186 official alerts, about a third of all official EU product alerts in 2023, 2024 and 2025, and two in three were filed by Italy.
- Takedowns from online marketplaces are now in one in five EU product alertsRemoval from an online marketplace was among the measures in 19% of official EU product alerts in 2026 so far, up from 6% in 2024. 85% of these takedowns were voluntary, and 84% of the products were made in China.
- After the EU banned TPO, gel nail polish became the fastest-growing product in official alertsTPO, a curing agent in gel nail polish, has been banned in EU cosmetics since 1 September 2025. By 1 October 2026 it appeared in 235 official alerts, 94% of all nail-product alerts in that period, and Italy filed three in four.
