Charging cables: recalls and official safety alerts

34 official alerts and recalls concern charging cables: 32 from EU Safety Gate and 2 from US CPSC. The first dates from 20 February 2020, the latest from 26 May 2026. In the last four complete quarters there were 4, down from 5 in the four quarters before. The hazards named most often are environment (94%), chemical (6%) and fire (6%). Read from the official risk descriptions, the most common reasons are restricted chemical above the legal limit (94%), lead in solder or components (91%) and overheats, melts or short-circuits (6%). 56% were for products made in China and 6% were for products made in Sweden. 9% of the EU alerts were marked as sold online, and 3% name an online marketplace, most often Amazon and eBay. The most common outcome was import rejected at the border (84% of EU alerts); 84% included a measure ordered by an authority. Chemicals named in the official risk descriptions include lead, phthalates and short-chain chlorinated paraffins.
