Lighters: recall list and dangerous-product alerts
37 EU Safety Gate alerts concern lighters. The first dates from 3 November 2020, the latest from 29 September 2026. In the last four complete quarters there were 13, up from 9 in the four quarters before. The hazards named most often are burns (95%), fire (81%) and electric shock (3%). Read from the official risk descriptions, the most common reasons are too flammable (5%) and missing warnings or child-resistant closure (3%). 46% were for products made in China and 27% were for products made in United Kingdom. 30% of the EU alerts were marked as sold online, and 3% name an online marketplace, most often Amazon. The most common outcome was withdrawn from the market (68% of EU alerts); 68% included a measure ordered by an authority.

Rates divide EU Safety Gate alerts by the value of extra-EU imports in the same customs codes (UN Comtrade, EU-27, converted from US dollars at the ECB annual average rate). They measure how often regulators flag products from this origin against the trade in them, not the share of products that are unsafe.
