27 official alerts and recalls concern products made in South Africa: 26 from EU Safety Gate and 1 from US CPSC. The first dates from 15 April 2020, the latest from 25 June 2026. In the last four complete quarters there were 6, up from 4 in the four quarters before. The hazards named most often are injuries (70%), chemical (22%) and drowning (7%). Read from the official risk descriptions, the most common reasons are ingredient not allowed in cosmetics (15%), restricted chemical above the legal limit (11%) and protective equipment does not protect (7%). The products flagged most are creams and lotions (7%), necklaces, bracelets and rings (4%) and earrings (4%). 12% of the EU alerts were marked as sold online, and 0% name an online marketplace. The most common outcome was recalled from consumers (81% of EU alerts); 12% included a measure ordered by an authority. Chemicals named in the official risk descriptions include lead, cadmium and phthalates.
