Ingredient not allowed in cosmetics
5,153 EU Safety Gate alerts concern products flagged for “ingredient not allowed in cosmetics”. The first dates from 17 December 2019, the latest from 1 October 2026. In the last four complete quarters there were 866, down from 1,785 in the four quarters before. The hazards named most often are chemical (98%), microbiological (2%) and other health risk (1%). 32% were for products made in Italy, 9% were for products made in France and 7% were for products made in China. 6% of the EU alerts were marked as sold online, and 2% name an online marketplace, most often Amazon, eBay and eMAG. The most common outcome was sales ban (72% of EU alerts); 92% included a measure ordered by an authority. Chemicals named in the official risk descriptions include lilial (BMHCA), hydroquinone and lead.
