E-scooters and e-bikes on Amazon: recalls and safety alerts
15 official alerts and recalls concern e-scooters and e-bikes sold on Amazon: 5 from EU Safety Gate and 10 from US CPSC. The first dates from 25 August 2021, the latest from 16 September 2026. In the last four complete quarters there were 6, up from 3 in the four quarters before. The hazards named most often are injuries (60%), fire (53%) and burns (27%). Read from the official risk descriptions, the most common reasons are overheats, melts or short-circuits (40%), battery can overheat, leak or explode (33%) and breaks or collapses (20%). 87% were for products made in China, 7% were for products made in France and 7% were for products made in Germany. The most common outcome was removed from online marketplace (60% of EU alerts); 60% included a measure ordered by an authority. The EU alerts were notified most often by the authorities of France (40%), Northern Ireland (40%) and Germany (20%).
