Cleaning products on Amazon: recalls and safety alerts
48 official alerts and recalls concern cleaning products sold on Amazon: 8 from EU Safety Gate and 40 from US CPSC. The first dates from 18 March 2020, the latest from 27 August 2026. In the last four complete quarters there were 15, up from 3 in the four quarters before. The hazards named most often are entrapment (48%), injuries (35%) and drowning (25%). Read from the official risk descriptions, the most common reasons are missing warnings or child-resistant closure (12%), breaks or collapses (10%) and hot surfaces, steam or liquids (6%). 71% were for products made in China, 19% were for products made in United States and 4% were for products made in Spain. The most common outcome was recalled from consumers (75% of EU alerts); 25% included a measure ordered by an authority. Chemicals named in the official risk descriptions include lead.
