Heaters on Amazon: recalls and safety alerts
28 official alerts and recalls concern heaters sold on Amazon: 12 from EU Safety Gate and 16 from US CPSC. The first dates from 16 October 2020, the latest from 17 September 2026. In the last four complete quarters there were 10, up from 6 in the four quarters before. The hazards named most often are fire (71%), electric shock (39%) and burns (36%). Read from the official risk descriptions, the most common reasons are overheats, melts or short-circuits (43%), non-compliant plug or socket (25%) and insufficient insulation or moisture protection (14%). 82% were for products made in China, 7% were for products made in United States and 4% were for products made in South Korea. The most common outcome was removed from online marketplace (50% of EU alerts); 50% included a measure ordered by an authority. The EU alerts were notified most often by the authorities of Northern Ireland (42%), Ireland (25%) and United Kingdom (17%). Chemicals named in the official risk descriptions include lead.
