Squeeze toys and squishies on Amazon: recalls and safety alerts
18 official alerts and recalls concern squeeze toys and squishies sold on Amazon: 16 from EU Safety Gate and 2 from US CPSC. The first dates from 31 March 2020, the latest from 3 September 2026. In the last four complete quarters there were 9, up from 5 in the four quarters before. The hazards named most often are choking (72%), injuries (39%) and chemical (28%). Read from the official risk descriptions, the most common reasons are small parts or stuffing can be swallowed (61%), expands when swallowed (50%) and restricted chemical above the legal limit (22%). 94% were for products made in China. The most common outcome was removed from online marketplace (62% of EU alerts); 44% included a measure ordered by an authority. The EU alerts were notified most often by the authorities of Northern Ireland (25%), United Kingdom (25%) and Luxembourg (19%). Chemicals named in the official risk descriptions include nickel, phthalates and short-chain chlorinated paraffins.
