Kettles, fryers and kitchen appliances on Amazon: recalls and safety alerts
17 official alerts and recalls concern kettles, fryers and kitchen appliances sold on Amazon: 12 from EU Safety Gate and 5 from US CPSC. The first dates from 13 October 2022, the latest from 15 September 2026. In the last four complete quarters there were 7, up from 4 in the four quarters before. The hazards named most often are fire (65%), electric shock (53%) and burns (47%). Read from the official risk descriptions, the most common reasons are overheats, melts or short-circuits (59%), insufficient insulation or moisture protection (24%) and restricted chemical above the legal limit (18%). 100% were for products made in China. The most common outcome was recalled from consumers (75% of EU alerts); 17% included a measure ordered by an authority. The EU alerts were notified most often by the authorities of France (25%), Germany (25%) and Ireland (25%). Chemicals named in the official risk descriptions include lead.
