Magnetic toys and magnet sets on Amazon: recalls and safety alerts
30 official alerts and recalls concern magnetic toys and magnet sets sold on Amazon: 10 from EU Safety Gate and 20 from US CPSC. The first dates from 26 November 2020, the latest from 1 October 2026. In the last four complete quarters there were 18, up from 6 in the four quarters before. The hazards named most often are injuries (93%), chemical (63%) and choking (13%). Read from the official risk descriptions, the most common reasons are small magnets can be swallowed (100%), small parts or stuffing can be swallowed (20%) and breaks or collapses (3%). 87% were for products made in China, 7% were for products made in Germany and 3% were for products made in Colombia. The most common outcome was recalled from consumers (40% of EU alerts); 30% included a measure ordered by an authority. The EU alerts were notified most often by the authorities of Germany (40%), United Kingdom (20%) and Ireland (10%).
