Swim aids and inflatables: recalls and official safety alerts
123 official alerts and recalls concern swim aids and inflatables: 122 from EU Safety Gate and 1 from US CPSC. The first dates from 23 December 2020, the latest from 29 September 2026. In the last four complete quarters there were 29, down from 34 in the four quarters before. The hazards named most often are drowning (49%), chemical (32%) and injuries (9%). Read from the official risk descriptions, the most common reasons are restricted chemical above the legal limit (34%), fingers, limbs or head can be trapped (21%) and tips over or lets the user fall (8%). 83% were for products made in China and 4% were for products made in Belgium. 57% of the EU alerts were marked as sold online, and 43% name an online marketplace, most often Amazon, AliExpress and Fruugo. The most common outcome was withdrawn from the market (47% of EU alerts); 58% included a measure ordered by an authority. Chemicals named in the official risk descriptions include phthalates, short-chain chlorinated paraffins and lead.
