3,690 official alerts and recalls concern alerts and recalls published in 2023: 3,366 from EU Safety Gate and 324 from US CPSC. The first dates from 3 January 2023, the latest from 28 December 2023. The hazards named most often are chemical (48%), injuries (24%) and choking (8%). Read from the official risk descriptions, the most common reasons are ingredient not allowed in cosmetics (29%), restricted chemical above the legal limit (25%) and small parts or stuffing can be swallowed (7%). 38% were for products made in China, 14% were for products made in Italy and 5% were for products made in Germany. The products flagged most are perfume and eau de toilette (14%), shampoo, shower gel and soap (6%) and children's clothing (4%). 21% of the EU alerts were marked as sold online, and 8% name an online marketplace, most often Amazon, eBay and Walmart. The most common outcome was withdrawn from the market (37% of EU alerts); 61% included a measure ordered by an authority. Chemicals named in the official risk descriptions include lilial (BMHCA), lead and phthalates.
