Extension leads and power strips on Amazon: recalls and safety alerts
24 official alerts and recalls concern extension leads and power strips sold on Amazon: 20 from EU Safety Gate and 4 from US CPSC. The first dates from 28 August 2020, the latest from 20 May 2026. In the last four complete quarters there were 9, down from 11 in the four quarters before. The hazards named most often are electric shock (79%), fire (29%) and injuries (12%). Read from the official risk descriptions, the most common reasons are no or faulty earthing (50%), live parts can be touched (29%) and restricted chemical above the legal limit (12%). 96% were for products made in China. The most common outcome was recalled from consumers (60% of EU alerts); 65% included a measure ordered by an authority. The EU alerts were notified most often by the authorities of Germany (75%), Spain (20%) and France (5%). Chemicals named in the official risk descriptions include lead.
