Extension leads and power strips on AliExpress: recalls and safety alerts

11 EU Safety Gate alerts concern extension leads and power strips sold on AliExpress. The first dates from 6 August 2020, the latest from 7 August 2026. In the last four complete quarters there were 8, up from 0 in the four quarters before. The hazards named most often are electric shock (91%), fire (82%) and burns (9%). Read from the official risk descriptions, the most common reasons are no or faulty earthing (91%), power cord too thin or not anchored (36%) and overheats, melts or short-circuits (27%). 100% were for products made in China. The most common outcome was recalled from consumers (91% of EU alerts); 9% included a measure ordered by an authority. Chemicals named in the official risk descriptions include lead.
