Fairy lights and light chains on Amazon: recalls and safety alerts
12 EU Safety Gate alerts concern fairy lights and light chains sold on Amazon. The first dates from 8 January 2025, the latest from 17 August 2026. In the last four complete quarters there were 10, up from 2 in the four quarters before. The hazards named most often are fire (83%), electric shock (67%) and electromagnetic disturbance (8%). Read from the official risk descriptions, the most common reasons are insufficient insulation or moisture protection (75%), overheats, melts or short-circuits (50%) and live parts can be touched (25%). 92% were for products made in China and 8% were for products made in France. The most common outcome was removed from online marketplace (83% of EU alerts); 33% included a measure ordered by an authority. Chemicals named in the official risk descriptions include lead.
