Fairy lights and light chains on eBay: recalls and safety alerts
8 EU Safety Gate alerts concern fairy lights and light chains sold on eBay. The first dates from 24 February 2022, the latest from 11 June 2026. The hazards named most often are electric shock (62%), fire (62%) and electromagnetic disturbance (12%). Read from the official risk descriptions, the most common reasons are insufficient insulation or moisture protection (88%), overheats, melts or short-circuits (50%) and live parts can be touched (38%). 88% were for products made in China and 12% were for products made in France. The most common outcome was removed from online marketplace (88% of EU alerts); 25% included a measure ordered by an authority. Chemicals named in the official risk descriptions include lead.
