Skin-lightening creams on Amazon: recalls and safety alerts
9 EU Safety Gate alerts concern skin-lightening creams sold on Amazon. The first dates from 28 October 2020, the latest from 4 September 2026. The hazards named most often are chemical (100%). Read from the official risk descriptions, the most common reasons are ingredient not allowed in cosmetics (100%) and restricted chemical above the legal limit (67%). 11% were for products made in China, 11% were for products made in Togo and 11% were for products made in United Kingdom. The most common outcome was removed from online marketplace (56% of EU alerts); 33% included a measure ordered by an authority. The EU alerts were notified most often by the authorities of France (44%), Sweden (33%) and Germany (11%). Chemicals named in the official risk descriptions include hydroquinone and mercury.
