Skin-lightening creams on eBay: recalls and safety alerts
15 EU Safety Gate alerts concern skin-lightening creams sold on eBay. The first dates from 19 August 2020, the latest from 1 October 2025. The hazards named most often are chemical (100%). Read from the official risk descriptions, the most common reasons are ingredient not allowed in cosmetics (100%) and restricted chemical above the legal limit (60%). 13% were for products made in China, 13% were for products made in Cameroon and 13% were for products made in Congo. The most common outcome was removed from online marketplace (60% of EU alerts); 47% included a measure ordered by an authority. Chemicals named in the official risk descriptions include hydroquinone and lead.
