Hair dryers and straighteners on eBay: recalls and safety alerts
9 EU Safety Gate alerts concern hair dryers and straighteners sold on eBay. The first dates from 4 February 2020, the latest from 23 June 2026. In the last four complete quarters there were 8, up from 0 in the four quarters before. The hazards named most often are electric shock (78%), fire (33%) and burns (11%). Read from the official risk descriptions, the most common reasons are overheats, melts or short-circuits (44%), insufficient insulation or moisture protection (22%) and breaks or collapses (22%). 78% were for products made in China. The most common outcome was removed from online marketplace (89% of EU alerts); 11% included a measure ordered by an authority. Chemicals named in the official risk descriptions include lead.
