Creams and lotions on Amazon: recalls and safety alerts
20 official alerts and recalls concern creams and lotions sold on Amazon: 8 from EU Safety Gate and 12 from US CPSC. The first dates from 18 March 2020, the latest from 2 April 2026. In the last four complete quarters there were 7, about the same as the 7 in the four quarters before. The hazards named most often are chemical (100%), injuries (35%) and damage to sight (5%). Read from the official risk descriptions, the most common reasons are missing warnings or child-resistant closure (55%), ingredient not allowed in cosmetics (35%) and restricted chemical above the legal limit (10%). 45% were for products made in China, 10% were for products made in United States and 5% were for products made in Türkiye. The most common outcome was removed from online marketplace (62% of EU alerts); 38% included a measure ordered by an authority. Chemicals named in the official risk descriptions include lilial (BMHCA), formaldehyde and mercury.
