Creams and lotions: official safety alerts report, Q2 2026
Numbers frozen on 1 October 2026. They will not change; later alerts appear in the next edition.
72 official alerts and recalls concerned creams and lotions in the 12 months to 30 June 2026: 64 from EU Safety Gate and 8 from US CPSC. There were 9 in Q2 2026, down from 16 in Q1 2026. In the 12 months before, there were 191.
Read from the official risk descriptions, the most common reason was ingredient not allowed in cosmetics (88%), followed by restricted chemical above the legal limit (11%) and missing warnings or child-resistant closure (10%).
22% were made in Italy. 14% of the EU alerts were marked as sold online and 6% name an online marketplace, most often Amazon (11).
The authorities of Italy (22), Northern Ireland (10) and Germany (9) filed the most alerts. The most common measure was sales ban (47% of EU alerts); 80% were ordered by an authority rather than taken voluntarily.
