104 official alerts and recalls concerned shampoo, shower gel and soap in the 12 months to 30 June 2026: 102 from EU Safety Gate and 2 from US CPSC. There were 9 in Q2 2026, down from 33 in Q1 2026. In the 12 months before, there were 284.
Read from the official risk descriptions, the most common reason was ingredient not allowed in cosmetics (92%), followed by restricted chemical above the legal limit (9%) and microbial contamination (7%).
36% were made in Italy. 5% of the EU alerts were marked as sold online and 1% name an online marketplace, most often Amazon (2).
The authorities of Italy (40), Czechia (37) and France (8) filed the most alerts. The most common measure was sales ban (50% of EU alerts); 87% were ordered by an authority rather than taken voluntarily.
