Shampoo, shower gel and soap: official safety alerts report, Q3 2026
Preliminary: authorities publish some alerts weeks after their date, so these numbers may still change until 21 October 2026. After that this edition is frozen.
91 official alerts and recalls concerned shampoo, shower gel and soap in the 12 months to 30 September 2026: 87 from EU Safety Gate and 4 from US CPSC. There were 12 in Q3 2026, up from 9 in Q2 2026. In the 12 months before, there were 227.
Read from the official risk descriptions, the most common reason was ingredient not allowed in cosmetics (90%), followed by restricted chemical above the legal limit (10%) and microbial contamination (7%).
34% were made in Italy. 11% of the EU alerts were marked as sold online and 2% name an online marketplace, most often Amazon (3).
The authorities of Italy (30), Czechia (30) and France (8) filed the most alerts. The most common measure was sales ban (47% of EU alerts); 89% were ordered by an authority rather than taken voluntarily.
