Cosmetics: recall list and dangerous-product alerts

5,130 official alerts and recalls concern cosmetics: 5,128 from EU Safety Gate and 2 from US CPSC. The first dates from 17 December 2019, the latest from 1 October 2026. In the last four complete quarters there were 865, down from 1,794 in the four quarters before. The hazards named most often are chemical (97%), microbiological (2%) and other health risk (1%). Read from the official risk descriptions, the most common reasons are ingredient not allowed in cosmetics (99%), restricted chemical above the legal limit (5%) and microbial contamination (2%). 32% were for products made in Italy, 9% were for products made in France and 6% were for products made in Germany. 7% of the EU alerts were marked as sold online, and 2% name an online marketplace, most often Amazon, eBay and eMAG. The most common outcome was sales ban (72% of EU alerts); 92% included a measure ordered by an authority. Chemicals named in the official risk descriptions include lilial (BMHCA), hydroquinone and lead.
